If the economy is in a recession right now, how can restaurants offer free refills of beverages that aren’t free?

Cause the profit margin on beverages (cola, tea, etc) is so great that they can afford to; similar to french fries; a true profit maker!!

Some beverages don’t cost that much to do refills on and most are probably watered down..
